VW Taos vs Compact SUVs

Taos

To cruise around Dayton, Vandalia, or Yellow Springs, you’ll want an efficient SUV that’s easy to handle both in the city and on the back roads, and a compact SUV is the go-to option for a

lot of drivers. One of the top options that meet these qualifications is the Volkswagen Taos, which we will look at next to several other comparable vehicles comparing key features

Volkswagen Taos vs Kia Seltos

Kia

Externally, these two compact SUVs have similar dimensions, but off the bat the Taos does a better job optimizing the space. The Taos includes roof rails that come standard that help with transporting larger cargo, from a luggage carrier to a kayak, while the Seltos doesn’t include these racks. Additionally, the Taos boasts more cargo space while both rear seats are in the upright position as well as when they are folded down. The Taos also includes more color options and a higher quality upholstery in the interior.

The Taos is fuel efficient, besting the Seltos in both highway and city mileage. The standard engine in the Taos also offers 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, which is an improvement compared to the Seltos, which only offers 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. While new compact SUVs have some fantastic features, the Taos includes a bit more, offering an upgraded infotainment system with a wireless connection. Another available upgrade offers semi-autonomous driving. Wireless Apple CarPlay and semi-autonomous driving are not offered at all in the Seltos.

Volkswagen Taos vs Chevy Trailblazer

Trailblazer

While the Trailblazer is a strong choice for value with a low starting price, good fuel economy, and some good standard features, the Volkswagen still pulls ahead of its competition with a comparable starting price and plenty of quality features. The Taos boasts a better highway fuel economy, a more compact exterior while still offering plenty of interior space, and a smoother ride. While the Trailblazer is a pleasant and cooperative SUV to drive on the highway, when the road conditions aren’t the best or when the road gets a little rough, the ride can get bumpy and choppy.

Chevrolet offers two engines for the Trailblazer, but neither one is as powerful as the Taos’ engine. While the Taos only has a few more horsepower than the Trailblazer, the horsepower really makes a difference. When tested, the Taos went from zero to sixty in 7.8 seconds, while the Trailblazer took 9.4 seconds. While the difference might not seem significant, it can make all the difference when making maneuvers that require the extra boost of speed

Volkswagen Taos vs Toyota RAV4
Toyota RAV4

While the RAV4 is a great compact SUV with fantastic safety ratings, the Taos starts to pull ahead off the bat with better fuel efficiency and more effective use of space inside the vehicle, allowing more spacious seating for passengers while maintaining similar exterior dimensions. The Taos is also lighter and 5 inches shorter, which helps it outperform the RAV4 in maneuverability and comes in handy for finding parking in a cramped city or a crowded parking garage. The Taos also outperforms the RAV4 with available features and a warranty with a longer lifespan.
